Rounds 5 & 6 of the 2012 BRSCC’s Euro Saloon Championship took place at the famous circuit of Brands Hatch in Kent and Chesterfield based team of “VF-Racing” was there with their prepared Subaru Impreza looking to climb the leader board.
After a difficult qualifying session, the team sat disappointedly on the 3rd row of the grid in 5th place. With a combined output of well over 2000 bhp ahead of us, the rolling start gave way to the first of the 20 minutes races.
Whilst making headway through the pack, and making a break for the top 3 a huge accident called an end to the day’s proceedings whilst the track was repaired. With an almost identical start to race 2, the Subaru was up to 4th place by the end of lap one having dispatched of the ex WTCC SEAT Leon of Ilsa Cox.
With ex – rally cross champion Barry Squibb up ahead, the next few laps consisted of Fletcher closing up under cornering, only for the more powerful Evo to pull away on the straights. After 20 laps of hard fought racing, the gap was down to less than a 3/10ths of a second.
Coming into “Graham Hill Bend”, the combination of slight contact from the Evo and overheating tyres pitched the Subaru into a spin, causing Fletcher to drop valuable time. Quick to recover, a loss of brakes (thought to be some way connected to the spin) meant the final lap was taken at less than a 100%, although not loosing position. As a result of a weekend of hard racing, the team are now 3rd in their class.
We will next be out at Rockingham over the weekend of 30th June/1st July for rounds 7 and 8 of the championship.
